“The program serves as the “paper” (as scientific articles are often referred to) of the event, and we wanted to use it to provide visual diversity to an activity that aims to combine various disciplines, themes, and interests in one place.”

QUANTUM SOUNDS SYMPOSIUM

Developed at: ICFO with Maciej Lewenstein & Reiko Yamada

Field: Art – Music / Science & Technology

Key Assets:

  • Visual Identity
  • Program
  • Symposium Assets: posters, badges, roll-ups, ppt’s, tote bags

Quantum Sounds was a symposium in which public and ICFO community could gain knowledge and inspiration from some of the most recent research done in the interface between quantum physics and music composition, data sonification, interactive sound interface, sound programming and audio software development.

The symposium consisted of a series of talks, lecture recitals (hybrid between lecture and performance) and Quantum Random Number Generator jam sessions.

Our task involved creating the visual identity for the event, designing a visually appealing program, and the symposium assets (posters, name badges, roll-ups, PowerPoint presentations, etc.).

For the graphic development, we worked with the concept of waves. This idea was suggested by Reiko Yamada, who, while studying how quantum sound sounds, also shared her thoughts on how this sound might look like, suggesting that a wave would be the closest representation of it.

In this regard, we’ve used a graphic with wavy forms as a leitmotif to shape most of the pieces except for the program where we aimed to intersperse and blend other wavy shapes with scientific text. Why? Because the program serves as the “paper” (as scientific articles are often referred to) of the event, and we wanted to use it as a vehicle to provide visual diversity to an activity that aims to combine various disciplines, themes, and interests in one place.
